Drake was founded in 1990 by Michael D. Frede and Karen Frede. In the early 1990’s, the environmental field was rapidly growing, due to increased government regulation and an expanding real estate market. They believed that their drive and dedication to superior client service was needed in the environmental consulting industry where "common service" found a common place.

Drake, with its humble beginning in a barn on the Frede’s property in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, quickly grew to the point of being named on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's “Future 50” lists in 1994, 1995, and 1996. Drake was created to be a company set apart from all others in the environmental industry. The quality of Drake’s work and the character of its employees have led to Drake’s fifteen years of success.
